Im greek and ive been watching the whole Chinasubject, alon with the arrogant reactions from american kiddos ofc thinking that being restricted from law on some things is better than being manipulated instead. :)

Anyhow, on topic: Did you all not see this comming after the latest events? Wonder if it will be from kiddengarden to elementaries attacking Google this time.

This is great by the way, Google continues its awesomeness streak. Not sure if anyone noticed but now if you say you're going to attach a file and fail to do so, Google reminds you that you forgot the attachment. Brilliant.

Eh, kind of rambling post and difficult to understand. I just use GMail for personal email so if they want to warn me if something suspicious comes up on my account go right ahead.

I also understand and follow the best practices when it comes to password complexity and age.

Does this include alerting you when google decides to spread your information to various data bases without really letting you know?

Does anyone want to try accesing gmail directly and then using a proxy straight after? Do you think this would net you one of those warnings?

Oh god, this is going to be such a pain in the ass, i can see it now, it will be the same as my credit card company who randomly cuts off my account of i decide to spend more than my monthly average for Christmas shopping. I usually spend about $75.00 per month on my credit card to maintain a revolving credit account, then when Christmas comes along, i usually spend upward of about $750.00 for that month and they shut off my account! It's Christmas!!! people shop that time of year!!!

Sounds like a good idea, unless you travel a lot. I can see europeans in particular having problems with this. That said, probably the most common occurences would be someone you know, like an ex hacking into your account. In most cases these would be in the same country and therefore wouldn't be caught by the system.

You get what you (probably) don't pay for.

I share email accounts with my fiancé who currently lives 3000 miles away, are we going to be pestered with alerts like these all the time? (PS. I don't give a damn what the TOS says)

^How can Google do that? They cannot stop you from giving out your password or malware on your PC recording it.

That's not a rhetorical question either, I really would like to know your opinion on how they could possibly (and feasibly) do that.

Why would you do that? Are you both paranoid with trust issues? Your weirdness is not Google's problem. Get an account on one of the other free web based email services.

"Keep in mind that these notifications are meant to alert you of suspicious activity but are not a replacement for account security best practices," Google said.

AMEN!
