I'm looking into getting a pair of headphones for gaming, more or less to christen my first gaming PC. I'm not sure what to get, but I know I want something that promotes good immersion. Any help at all is appreciated. My budget is anything less than $200.

PLEASE NOTE: I have almost no interest in talking to people online, so please DO NOT suggest a headset.

Thanks for the info, but I was hoping for specifics.

Thanks! I'll probably go with the 518s, as I plan on customizing almost all my computer related stuff down the line, and the grill fits nicely with what I have in mind.

As Kenneth stated, Sennheiser products are very good for sound quality, there is a range of products from somewhat cheap to very very expensive, read some reviews, and find out what you like.

The Professional Sony studio headphones are great, at least the ones I've used.

Keep in mind high quality professional headphones commonly have high ohm loads, and wont sound good unless there is some type of amplification involved. Some Asus Xonar sound cards have build in headphone amps, and can properly drive high ohm headphones.

You might have an audio equipment dealership in your area that would let you sample some 'real' headphones. Reading reviews can't really show you what quality audio sounds like.

Most "gamer" headphones are overpriced and poor quality, especially compared to quality cans. My turtle beach x12's are comfortable, and flashy looking, but there audio quality doesn't come close to the nearly $90 that I spent on them.

Just please, please what ever you do, do not get 'beats'. You're welcome.

As he said, if you want to be blown away... go and see for yourself what a pair of $2,000 headphones sound like. It is amazing. However, even the lower end "cheaper" high end audio headphones will impress. I know I was blown away the first time I put on a pair of decent Sennheisers, and it changed how I look a mobile/headset audio. The sets I recommended will do the same for you.

Well, considering most "Gamer headphones" are headsets, I'm not surprised their crap.

To be fair, it's easy to guess that anything with a pop or rap star's name isn't worth it.

Just because there is a mic involved, doesn't mean that the sound quality should suffer, even though this is most likely the case. Buy low, sell high and all that...

There are far more 'gamers (funny, spell check suggested lamers here, because that is a word, yet gamers is not)' in the world, than audio enthusiasts.

Best of luck.
