I was using my mic when I lunged back in my chair, and unplugged it. It stopped working then. I checked same mic on my laptop and it works fine.
I have updated drivers, rebooted, etc etc but the mic wont work.
Could I have damaged the mic jack? How to check?

Hi,

The mic might have not set automatically when you plug it in. Right click on the speaker icon on the bottom right corner and select Recording Devices make sure that the mic is already connected. Check if it's set as default already because if not right click on the mic then select Set as Default.

I'm using a razor carcharias headset with mic.
The mic works in laptop. When I plug the mic in and out of my desktop mic port, I hear static (the popping) when I move it in and out of the jack.
It is a double 1/8th inch, not usb.

It would seem that if I can hear noise from the jack, and the mic works in another laptop, that would mean both are working? But possibly the mic jack was somehow switched to output?

So.... This sucks.
I have uninstalled Realtek drivers, but can't figure out how to reinstall, because no device is installed.

My mic works in another laptop.
The desktop seems to recognize that something is plugged into the mic jack, but it is not recieving signal. I have tried the normal real jacks, and the front jacks.

The only solution i can imagine is to drop the machine at the repair shop and hope it gets taken care of in an hour, so it only costs $80 lol.

I swear. I was working one second, and te next, gone!
