Google 2-Step Verification was not on, I never turned it off.

Is this a glitch with google? There are no security events in the last 28 days but I know this account has had authentication on it recently and I have no memory of turning it off. I can't contact google to get more than 28 days back in info about my account security to see when it happened and I have no email saying it was turned off. There are no deceives on my account which I don't recognise. Any ideas?

Also the text I recieved when I first set it up just came up as a +44 number. I then disabled it again and reset it up and this time the text came through as "Google" is this some sort of scam?
