sure now MS will make a play for LG since the nokia thing is dead and LG will become a small fish in this pond.
So now the hell will Motorola do?

Google, in general, seems to think the same as i do. I'm greedy. I do for the best. I crush my oponents and try not to let myself open for attacks. I conquer what i fear, so i can understand what i'm afraid of and overcome it.

GO GOOGLE, GO!!! YOU GUYS ARE MY HEROES! I WANNA WORK WITH YOU! 😀

Didn't the manufacturer's have to pay the license fees (e.g. Samsung)...so if true, this $ amount represents Google pre-paying those fees for the manufacturers (assuming the license fees no longer exist that is...)

Google makes it money from search, this includes phones. This move is all about patent protection, not hardware. They still want their search tools and applications used by as many systems as possible, so I think there is zero worry about them shutting out partners such as samsung.

I'm hoping this is a bid for Motorola's patents so that Google can legitimately defend itself against Apple, Microsoft, and all the others conspiring against them. Still, I'm surprised they didn't go after HTC. Maybe Motorola was actually selling, but I thought HTC was a bigger partner (they have more Android phones). Still, Apple will probably fight this on "anti-trust" grounds, even though Apple makes their own phones and phone OS, they'll find a problem with Google doing the same thing.

Licensing one patent does NOT protect you when someone sues you for violating a different patent. With patent wars, when one party sues the other for infringement, the defendant usually sues back for infringement of a different patent. Licensing a patent provides protection only from the patent you are licensing. So Google could have licensed every last Motorola patent, that wouldn't protect them when Apple comes suing.

This is to counter the 4.5B Microsoft, Apple, and oracle just paid to beat Google out of the Nortel patents. The way I see it this is great, as it should allow a future nexus phone from Motorola, and allow Google to use Motorola's patents to protect its partners. The only mobile company with a bigger patent portfolio than Motorola is Nokia.

So Motorola is completely giving up the mobile sector? But what else does the company do?

[citation][nom]stratplaya[/nom]That's what we need, a bigger Google.[/citation]

Apple is the largest company by market capitalization. besides the fact that that doesn't mean anything, you can simply argue we need a smaller apple. Perhaps paying living wages would pare down their stock price.

Any googlephone will always be more honest than Apple's toy plagued by critical hardware and software problems.

How come no mention of Motorola planning to sue other Android makers for infringing on their IP? That's the real reason they bought Motorola. Can't have someone from the "family" suing another member of the "family", can we?
