Bravo Google, I am glad they did look into this, otherwise we will be decades away from something like this, now here is the smart funny part : "Here they go again, now they want to know where I go offline"

Won't catch me in one of these things.

The software will inevitably crash/malfunction causing a real crash.
The car will inevitably be hacked to do someone else s bidding.

WOW... I am amazed at how few people commenting on this have any clue about google's self driving feature. OF course it will have a manual override.....

The number of instances where "situational awareness" for YOU is better than that of the google car.... is very few. The google car will ALWAYS know the correct way to brake, the right way to handle a spin-out etc. Humans will not remember the right way to act when they are barreling towards their death, the computer will. And no, nobody is going to "hack" it, because they could just as easily cut your brake lines, and nobody is doing that to you now are they? Of course this isn't going to be set to be re-programmed wireless-ly...

I sure hope terrorist don't get their hand on the car. Imagine planting a bomb and asking the car to drive to a busy area with mobile phone to active voice command.

They most likely wont have retro fit kits, so older vehicles will always be manual, but knowing the government they will invent another "cash for clunkers" where they delete all the good used vehicles in favor of paying too much for a new one just to take more freedom from people....

The google car will also offer unique services - it will drive you to wherever their advertisers want it to, will only show you products the want you to purchase and not the ones from other competitors, will make a full copy of your DNA sequence while you are driving (google knows whats best for you, you know?). The car will also download all your personal information from whichever phone you get into the car, make a copy of it, and share it with their advertisers to make sure you get the best ads they can send your way. The car will also notify your wife is any female gets into the car with you (the car has a sex detector inside the seats) - so don't ever think about getting close to her. The car is so autonomous if someone downloads porn using your IP address the car will drive you to jail and will only open its doors to the feds ( which of course will have full control over the car all the time ). If you want to go Kmart the car will only drive you to Target (you know Kmart is not a google company) so you will need to walk or take a non-google bus to get to kmart. I'm so happy that like apple, google knows what is better for me now!
