Greyed out "format" option.

So, I bought a sx530 HS canon powershot camera. I put in the memory card right, and move the little peice on it to unlock it and when I turn the camera on, it says "memory card error" at the top. And when i go to the settings, I try to format but the option to format is greyed out. Help?

Its 64gb. Im not sure if its supported or not but thats what the rep at the store told me.
