GSM Smartphone for UK trip

Can anybody help me out with finding an smartphone (prefer android) that would work in the UK? I want to buy something here that I can take over there and use when I go on vacation this December.

If its not android its cool, but I'd like to know of a basic smartphone that work on UK GSM signals. Something pretty low priced, I don't wanna spend $500 for a phone that's gonna be used for 3 weeks. Any help is appreciated. I'm with sprint and my EVO won' work over there.

Sprint has a blackberry that's an international phone but i don't really know blackberry and don't want to get one unless I have too.

You can buy any unlocked gsm tri or quad band phone off ebay or something like that. The unlocked phone will you to use a sim bought in the UK. (less airtime costs) than international roaming.
