I could really use some advice. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7577 laptop. It has an Intel Quad-Core i7-7700HQ, 256GB SSD + 1 TB SSD, 32GB DDR4 Memory, and a NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB Graphics after some upgrades. It's fairly new, so there's nothing really slowing the performance. The harddrives are fairly empty.

I also have a HTC Vive. Even with games such as Superhot and Holopoint (smaller games), I am getting a ton of lag. It seems to be getting a bit worse, but I've faced that issue with VR games since first getting it. I'm now trying to avoid this becoming too much of a money pit.

My question are:
  • Is a 1060 enough?
  • If so, are there options to lower the performance of these games without changing the frame rate?
  • If not, is it best to buy a eGPU? (Or rather, is there any loss of performance with a eGPU?)
  • If so, would a 1070, 1080, or 1080 ti be best given that I really just want it to run without lagging?
  • Is there something better to try?
