vinnyyyyyy :
i tried watch dogs but it only gives 12-30fps
I posted my answer earlier but I wasn't a member so I don't think it posted? if it did post please ignore this post.
im assuming you have onboard graphics in your laptop as well. Most laptops with the 860m also have onboard graphics
and the 860M is supposed to kick in when needed.
anyway to fix your FPS issue. go into the NVidia control panel - manage 3D settings - global settings
its probably set to "auto" change it to "high performance video card"
or if you go to program settings you can add games that are more demanding to run off the 860M.
its less hassle to just use the global settings.
the onboard graphics are pretty decent for onboard so it will run newer games but with lower FPS
so that's why the 860M doesn't always kick in.
Just remember to switch the settings back to "auto" when your not gaming to save battery/power.
I had the same problem. My old desktop had a GTX 460 and would run WoW on ultra at 35-40 FPS.
other games on high 25-35 FPS.
when I got my laptop I expected it to do better but I was only getting 15-20. I KNEW there had to be something wrong !
I discovered it was running off the onboard ( which is impressive for onboard )
So when I forced the 860m to be my default card im now getting anywhere from 70-100 FPS.
Ive been very happy with the laptop. I looked at the y50 but went with the Asus ROG.
it has the same specs but has a better warranty and looks cooler lol
it does get pretty hot. make sure you invest in a laptop cooler you can pick one up on amazon for under $20.
