Hackers Launching Satellite to Evade Internet Censorship

We need encrypted distributed network internet. like routers that link in and move data across and to other users. An internet with no backbone. They just have to be wireless and carry signal far. But if enough people have the devices and there enough ways to hop. We do need multiple nodes that keep the information of who's connected and the fastest ways to get there like a torrent swarm but one that carries data.

That is my plan - if SOPA passes, I'm just going to go to every website of the companies that supported it, and start posting song lyrics to other people's music. Let them have a taste of what they are bringing on the world.

Or better yet - this is a HUGE money making opportunity...
Copyright my own crappy lyrics, then have a "friend" post them on all of these companies websites, then sue the HELL out of those companies.

And as for this idiotic idea... whom do they think will even launch a hacker satellite for them? Maybe they can do it themselves from the Island Pirate Bay bought a few years back

Just another ploy to get fools to pony up some freee money for them is what I think.

ya i find it very comical they take down pro-piracy stuff extremely fast yet they write article after article about killing patents and trademarks and copyright.

Personally I don't think a parallel network is the solution, or at least not physically. An encrypted VPN on the internet -maybe with a special browser that uses a privately controlled DNS- would be a better solution.
In Romania we had serious problems with the authorities when we were sharing internet connections on local "improvised" networks. In the end we were forced to take down the cables and subscribe to local internet service providers individually. The state will always try to regulate all forms of communication on its territory, including what goes on above it - in space.
This problem should be attacked somehow legally. Users should be able to sign wavers with ISPs, like in the doctor's office, so the service provider won't be obligated to respect state-imposed standards and regulations (including censorship) on the user's internet connection.

now this is some great news....i am sure that the black-outs can be fixed by implementing some kind of triangulation between 3 or more satellites around the orbit, much of how GPS satellites work now

Why don't we just shoot them? It is a lot cheaper and a lot less time consuming. If you need a reason, you can use the good old Nazi accusations of "crimes against humanity."

I bet SpaceX would do it. What's the point of commercialising space exploration if it's not a free market.

No one will be gaming on this network... and it doesn't need to be available all the time. Just the fact of it's existence would be a constant thorn in these people's sides. It would probably be used, as mentioned, for information. That's a good idea.

Launching a satellite just so you can pirate dull hollywood films you never get around to watching is hardly a "great cause for freedom".

Grow up .. no one is forcing you to purchase the internet. Internet access is a want .. not a need. You didn't create the internet. You don't own the internet. If you sooooo strongly disagree with SOPA. Then cancel your internet subscription. Then when all the internet providers to online businesses run out of cash ... only then Congresss will listen. Until then all your gripes and crying means nothing.

I agree with the general sentiment in here, this satellite will never be allowed to stay in orbit. Unless there are some laws to protect them, which I doubt. Makes me wonder what the laws are around amateur satellites (for research, etc.)?
