antiliberal - You completely missed the point of why. It's not that Dems don't care when a Republican's info gets spilled publicly. In fact, it should not even be viewed as a Republican vs Democrat issue. It should be viewed as a citizen vs. politician issue. The thing is, Republicans and Democrats (most of them, including McCain) supported acts and laws which essentially violate our privacy as American citizens meanwhile, the current politicians in office have become more dishonest and secretive regarding themselves. It's a double standard.
In a Democracy, we are supposed to have open, free knowledge about the government, what it's doing, and why, while the CITIZENS privacy should be protected. The whole point of having open knowledge of the government is so that we can have informed public discourse about our nation and the way it is going, and ultimately, how we should vote to solve our problems. We have it almost completely backward now. We now talk about mundane things, like the pregnancy of a VP's daughter, and almost completely ignore other issues, while the government keeps working to get full access to our private lives. I don't like that the economy sucks, but I'm happy that it does right now because it's keeping us focused on an issue that actually matters.
Point being, this has nothing to do with Republicans vs. Democrats. This is citizens vs. the government.
