The person who is the most untrustworthy in this is, of course, the hacker. Why should I trust anything he/she "revealed"? As far as I'm concerned, the whole thing is bs. No way to know if any of those messages are even real. No more believable than the campaign promises (of both sides).

The employees that wrote the yahoo-mail application know nearly nothing about 'security'.

They should be fired immediately.

Even a 7 year old hacker knows more.

People running for MAJOR offices in Washington... that know next to nothing about 'technology'... should drop out of the race.

This is 2008, not 1950.

Welcome to reality!

I agree with the person who stated that this is not really a partisan issue. A potential VP SHOULD know that using a personal account to conduct government business is likely to be viewed with suspicion. But then, Palin apparently didn't think she would ever be hacked. This shows either poor judgment or political dishonesty, both qualities I don't want in the executive branch, no matter what their party affiliation. Pollyanna-ish? Maybe, but the secrecy and corruption must stop...Also, the reason why Congress hasn't been able to do much is because they can't override Bush's vetoes. The act of hacking is a crime, of course, but remember this(I hear it ALL the time from Repubs who don't like more govt, but think the Patriot Act is the greatest thing since sliced bread): "If you're not doing anything wrong, why should you care?" Palin definitely needs more schooling.

McCain's wife responds to e-mails and generally uses the computer for him. The reason? He can't type, because of what happened to his arms in Vietnam. (They were each broken in two or three different places, intentionally, and never treated. Therefore, they have set in a position of immobility.) This doesn't mean he is unable to use the computer, it means he has never been able to do it. He is computer-disabled. In the general sense of politics, it all sucks, and one of the reasons is that rumors spread into fact so quickly. The aforementioned is one of them. His inability to use computers is physical, not mental. But, ignorance is rampant, I'm not excluded. So, it's what we have to deal with, hopefully with a bit more patience and charity than the attitude that commonly pervades political discussions.

re: mjuste

Check your info. It's been confirmed the had DID take place. You haven't seen palin or anyone denying the content of the emails have you? Ergo they're accurate. I'm just waiting for the public crucifiction of the 'hacker' to hurry up and happen so the general public can focus on the highly questionable ethics of Palin using private email for government work.

I suppose it should matter what conversations she has in emails. Given they are all directed at something that will become public knowledge at some point. What difference does it matter where the email take place when they will eventually become a public bill? People are so ignorant.

EnFoRceR22 i think you are talking to me.. if so.. i dont think you get the point..nor you ever will. i wasnt talking about stimulous checks, or 100% tax cuts, one word 'sarcasm' get that one?.. let me put it a little easier for you.. the whole hack is BS,,, the subjects of the emails are just too good to be real.. it is just BS to make her look good, to make it seem that shes concerned about oil prices, taxes and other 'outstanding' issues... if you dont question anything then your opinion is hardwired by all the c.r.a.p the media feeds you..

If the hack happened then ok it happened big freaking deal, if it was me who hacked the account i will be disclosing not only the subjects but the whole email thread, dates, recipients, etc...

oh and just to make clear i think o.b.a.m.a is the other side of the fraud.. im not racist but i will never vote for X candidate who i dont know anything about. and McCain hes too old, sara palin the pretty face that came to rescue the republican party from a s.h.i.t.h.o.l.e vote for whoever you want at the end the 'super delegates' will decide for you, so much for breaking our heads ha?

Reading through all the comments reminds me that it doesn't matter what evidence (or lack thereof) exists, people will believe what they want to believe. My personal favorite is the flat Earth hypothesis that the world is really a disk with the arctic in the center and the antarctic fringing the edges.

There is a possibility that the screen shots were hacked. I don't watch TV news, and I've only read this in a handful of major online resources - so its also possible it is an erroneous story. However, unless Palin discloses copies of those emails to confirm or refute these claims, we can never be certain. It will evolve into another unanswerable "who killed JFK" mystery.

I've been trying very hard to keep my political views out of this. Our country is fairly polarized and divided, and each side thinks they are 100% right and without error. Each side also latches on to events that spill the slightest hint of political innuendo and tear at it like starving piranhas. Perhaps it is a political conspiracy of some sort, but again the proof is lacking - by Ockham's Razor we should suspect the simplest explanation that a politically motivated private citizen or organization is most likely responsible and that the event did happen.

Also, just because we are not talking about the punishment of the hacker does not mean we think they should go unpunished. If a person's house gets robbed blind and they left it unattended with all the doors and windows open (or, for a better analogy, left a key under the doormat or on top of the decorative door frame), we tend to have less sympathy for them than the one that keeps it locked tight and takes precautions. We all still think the burglar deserves to get punished even if we focus on the victims lack of good judgment.

This reminds me of the story that went a while back about a staffer from Orin Hatch's office breaking into T. Kennedy's computer and other Dem accounts. I wonder what happened with that? Nonetheless, I hope the culprit(s) get caught and prosecuted, but why is she not using secure RNC emails? I'm sure they must have a system that is more secure than Yahoo's where they can conduct official business. Antiliberal, you are a little off base here. As I'm sure you know very well socialism is an economic model NOT a governing one. Those individuals where nothing more than dictators/megalomaniacs/psychotic/ paranoid killers who took hold of governments.

Why don't they charge her instead of worrying about who did it? It is obviously a problem with the security SHE chose to use, not the fact that they "hacked" into it in 30 seconds...using the SECURITY tools provided to change your password in the first place non-the-less... And doesn't the "government" take security seriously? What would they do to "average joe" if he leaked "sensitive" government documents?

Ohh, thats right, put him/her in jail...why is she still free? (Even if it was an accident?)

"I call this vigilante justice. The woman is already under investigation for corruption charges and wrongful termination of government employees. Now we find out through this that she was conducting government business through Yahoo email, most likely to avoid freedom of information acts. Why is she running for VP again? Is the Republican Party TRYING to destroy any shred of credibility it has left?"

Overlooking the validation of vigilante justice if it is only applied to Republicans, it is not against the law to perform STATE business over personal email accounts. The freedom of information act only applies to the FEDERAL government. Go back to school and learn the difference between state and federal powers you liberal noob.
