Hi, please forgive me for being new to video formats and encoding. For a while now I haven't been able to encode videos with HandBrake 0.99.5530 (and older versions) on my PC with Windows 7 64-bit because the encoding never gets past 00.00%. I've tried many different videos and formats. I've upgraded versions and reinstalled HandBrake but it still isn't working. I know the videos are ok because they encoded on my Mac and a friend's PC perfectly. This computer has encoded perfectly before in HandBrake, but doesn't anymore.

Thanks!

You can try MPEG Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com/) which is an alternative to Handbrake and is free as well. What format is the video in and what format are you trying to encode it as? I take it that you have been able to encode with Handbrake in the past or am I mistaken? If you have in been able to in the past has there been any changes to your system since you were last able to encode with Handbrake? Just out of curiosity have you checked your version of QuickTime?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. I've tried converting a few different formats of videos, including DV, AVI and MP4. I was converting to MP4 most of the time, but tried MKV too. I haven't changed the models of any parts, but I did get a replacement motherboard due to problems with the old one (same model) last month, right about when I noticed the problem with HandBrake. I used the same Windows installation from the old motherboard. I know Windows can be picky about that, but everything else has worked great, and Windows has been pretty stable. Also, I do have the most recent version of QuickTime. Thanks again for your response. If you're out of ideas that's fine-if I really need HandBrake I can just reinstall Windows at some point.

Have you checked for motherboard driver updates including a BIOS update? If not, check for updates from the motherboard manufacturer. You might want to check and see if the driver for your video card is up to date as well.

Thanks again for the reply. That's a good idea to update the BIOS since this BIOS's "build date" is actually before that of my previous motherboard (this one is probably refurbished). As for my video card, it has Catalyst 13.4, which is the latest stable release I believe but there is a 13.8 beta so I might try that. I was thinking that it could also have to do with recent OpenCL support in HandBrake, and possibly the fact that I have AMD APP installed. I guess there could be a conflict. My friend has a 7850 and used the same version of HandBrake that gave me problems (previous version though), but may have been using older drivers.

I updated the UEFI, which worked successfully so I'm really glad about that. The HandBrake problem still is there, but I'm glad I've got the newest UEFI, at least. But I did find another forum post with a similar issue: http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/332165-Handbrake-unable-to-scan-load-source-video-files
