You can try MPEG Streamclip (http
/www.squared5.com/) which is an alternative to Handbrake and is free as well. What format is the video in and what format are you trying to encode it as? I take it that you have been able to encode with Handbrake in the past or am I mistaken? If you have in been able to in the past has there been any changes to your system since you were last able to encode with Handbrake? Just out of curiosity have you checked your version of QuickTime?
Hi, thanks for the quick reply. I've tried converting a few different formats of videos, including DV, AVI and MP4. I was converting to MP4 most of the time, but tried MKV too. I haven't changed the models of any parts, but I did get a replacement motherboard due to problems with the old one (same model) last month, right about when I noticed the problem with HandBrake. I used the same Windows installation from the old motherboard. I know Windows can be picky about that, but everything else has worked great, and Windows has been pretty stable. Also, I do have the most recent version of QuickTime. Thanks again for your response. If you're out of ideas that's fine-if I really need HandBrake I can just reinstall Windows at some point.
UPDATE: I've fixed, or at least found a workaround for the problem: I did a 2-pass encode and it worked great.
