Yeah.. well, I don't think they should be manufacturing too many of these. I don't see how this can be better than a 13 inch notebook/ultrabook, even for the scenario described by them.
I could see people trying to mount this in a certain location and use it as a touch screen entertainment device (like they said, watch a movie or something), and Toshiba should come up with some solutions for that. Aside from that, the better use for this would be not the kitchen-like environment, but the couch/sofa.

Jesus Toshiba. First the ridiculously ultra-wide ultrabook you're releasing, and now this impractically-large 13" tablet. Don't do much in the way of consumer surveys and focus groups before you actually start building products, do you?

Also, enough already with the 16:9 ratio tablets. It sucks. 16:10 or more vertical if possible. It's way ergonomically annoying to hold a tablet that is so much longer than it is wide when in portrait mode.

[citation][nom]icepick314[/nom]for 10" screen, wouldn't it be better to use 1920x1080 screen?[/citation]

oops...I meant 13"...

and another note, at 1600x900 on 13" screen, I would hate to notice all those pixels...reading texts on that tablet would give me a headache....

Personally, I've always liked the idea of a larger tablet. Yeah, it's not as portable and it's definitely heavier. However, I would take a 13inch over a 10inch any day. The screen real estate increase is well worth it to me, as well as having a larger on-screen keyboard. It's not so much larger than a 10inch to the point of being unportable. I mean, I cart around a 14inch laptop all over the place. Now, releasing it for $650 is mildly retarded, especially with Android. Then again, they're going for a niche market who might be willing to pay that price.

Put windows 8, an i3, and an SSD in there and I'll consider it for $650. 1600x900 is a perfectly decent resolution on a 13inch screen, though I wouldn't mind a bump up to 1080p either.

Not all products are made for everyone to enjoy. I know people with poor vision that are waiting for the 18 inch ASUS Transformer AIO because 13 inches is still too small for their comfort.

Bigger is better when it comes to tablets, BUT not if the resulting tablet weights 1kg.

Tablet size is ultimately limited by weight. If you can't hold it comfortably with one hand for extended periods of time, then it's not a good tablet.

Look at all the whiners about low resolution. Most laptops people use are 1366x768 on 15", but Apple comes out with a ridiculous hi-res display and everybody's screaming like pixels are raping their cat.

As for this tablet, yeah, no thanks. I'm all for big screens (3 x 27" @ 1080p - eeek pixels everywhere), but on handheld devices I'd rather have lighter weight and longer battery life. Hate to agree with Steve Jobs but 9.7" seems like a perfect size for a tablet.

Please, I've been complaining about 1366x768 screens LONG before iPhone 4's Retina display. My lament about having a resolution too small to do with anything has naff all to do with Apple.

$650-750 seems absurd. I could just about buy a nexus 7 AND a 32" LCD tv for that kinda money. Although maybe the micro-HDMI cable would break the budget.....
