Hard drive not found

Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron laptp from 2002 and it has been working perfectly untill few days age when I got the Hard Drive not found message on startup.
Does this mean it is broken or what?
And what do you suggest I should do (except for buying a new one

Sounds like a hard drive failure to me.
Hard drive replacement would be the usual solution.
There is also a chance it could be a loose cable or a problem on the motherboard.

Already have all your personal file and data backed up?
