Hard drive replacement.

I have a hosed hard drive on a Toshiba laptop. I do not have any recovery software to use. The Laptop owner took the laptop to the IT dept where he works, and for some reason, they deleted the main partition on the hard drive. I attempted to install Win8 on the drive, but to no avail. I can see the recovery area of the hard drive, as well as all of the folders associated with window8. Will a start up disk solve the problem?

To install a fresh version of windows when installing you need to delete all of the drives when installing windows and then install windows on the full singular drive with a disk or flash drive with windows 8.

Ok... did that... the screen gets to “Getting Files ready for installation “ 1% and stops. This is a L50 laptop.

Did the laptop break in the first place that sounds like a hard drive failure.
