I have my PDA for almost a year but never try hard reset.
Therefore, it is very new to me and hesitate to do so. Any
good advice and experience will be appreciate.

Thanks.

Backup your files and data first!

Why do you want to do a hard reset? The hard reset will put your PPC back
to the original factory setting, all data and installed apps will be removed
(unless stored on non-volitle memory)

If you really think it is a good idea then back up your machine unless you
aren't bothered about the information you have stored. My machine came with
2 separate backup programs, have you got one? That's probably more important
than a hard reset to see what happens.

Thanks.

No, not for that assuming that you have already tried a soft reset.

The problem here is that you may have a problem with the registry. If that
is the case and you backup then restore, the problem may come back.

Can you be more specific? What do you mean by backup then
restore? If this is a registry problem, can you give me
some help how to determine this?

Thanks.

My Asus came with two separate backup programs.
1- Smartkeeper. This allows manual backups and also an automatic backup when
the battery level gets low
"Automatically or manually back up the complete configuration Pocket PC data
to an external CompactFlash card."
http://www4.tomshardware.com/mobile/20031010/asus-05.html#asus_smartkeeper

2- Asus backup- This is manual and offers the choice of All Data or PIM
Data.
"Back up selected user data Pocket PC data to an external CompactFlash
card."
http://www4.tomshardware.com/mobile/20031010/asus-06.html

There will probably be equivalent software available that can be bought, but
I haven't needed to look.

Backups should be made fairly regularly so you have restore points in case
some corruption creeps in. It may be that you have corruption that would be
restored after a hard reset, but you need to back up and hard reset the
machine, then restore to find out. No-one can tell you, you'd need to try
it. It's best to backup regularly and before you have any problems.

Have you looked on your machine's install CD? Is there no backup/restore
software provided with the machine?
I would have thought that most machines would provide some option, but there
will be third party options- I can't really give any recommendations as I
haven't needed to look for any, but I'm sure a web search would help you
here.....

Don't forget there is one way to backup/restore that you will have-
Activesync. It means you need to be at your PC so can't be done
anywhere/anytime, and isn't automatic as the battery gets flat like
SmartKeeper.

Connect your machine, open activesync, Tools menu, Backup/Restore ......
look here:
http://pocketprof.org/pocketpc_backup.htm

and even microsoft has help:
