harddrive locked by password

I got a hold of Maxtor hard drive with a password lock. I was unable to lock it no matter what I tried. Couldn't even wipe it. I just gave up and put it on the shelf.

You could try googling it but, honestly I doubt you will get anywhere.

If you just want to re-use the HDD, format it if you can and reinstall windos on it, it's the only legal option...

Can't format assuming the password is in the hard disk hardware.

ok i've supposed it was encrypted, not completly locked... Well the only other options is to contact the manufacturer itself and explain your case, maybe they have a solution for you but normally you would require the password...

Depending on where you live do a search for Hard Drive recovery for damaged, password protected etc. You might have to send it in to get it decrypted and unlocked- and that can be expensive.
