Jane, a little nitpicking:

Since you wrote 419GB (with a capital "B") I assumed you meant Gigabytes, but that would require downloading at around 40Mbps rate for a whole week straight.

According to this article
here (about the contest)

Megafon only offers about half this speed.

So I guess it's supposed to be 419Gb - as in 419 Gigabits.

Wow! He would have to have been downloading at an average constant rate of at least 5.54Mb/s 24/7 for that week to get to that number. Or, at least 11.1Mb/s for 12 hours a day, depending on how you look at it. That's one busy guy.

Check your math again.

`3,352,000 Mb in 419GB
604,800 seconds in a week

=5.54Mb/s constant data flow

1wk = 7 days = (7x24hrs) 168hrs = (168x60mins) 10080mins = (10080x60secs) 604800secs
419gb = (419x1024mb) 429056mb

429056mb/604800secs = 0.709mb/s
Probably u should actually calculate be4 making sweeping statements.

I am only on a 10Mb/s plan and getting 419GB is definitely possible. As at max speed it is about 3.5GB an hour, times 24 and 7 on that, you end up with 588GB in a week.

At 20Mb/s plan, max he can get would be over 1 terabytes. He was under-utilizing it! Jane is never wrong.

Yeah, I already figured out my stupid mistake. I forgot to multiply by 7.

My apologies, Jane!

Since I can't delete my previous post, thumb downs away!

419 GB? Let see, if a Typical Verizon Wireless customer has the 2GB/month for $20 with a $10/GB overage charge, that means they would only pay $4,190 for this week's worth of activity. However, they could save $30 if they went for the data intensive 10GB/month plan. Yippie for free market forces for creating the best solutions for consumers!

Heh, that's Russian Internet for you. And that's 3G. On the standard cable - not ADSL or any other crap, we've got fiber optic - you get 100 Mbps (REAL speed) and 20GB download, then 12-20 Mbps unlimited for the rest of the month. $26/month. U jelly US? :lol:

No real caps in Finland either (except for some providers).
I pay 13.9e/month for a 15Mbps 3G connection and 4.95e/month (2y contract) for my 200/10M wired.

Managed to reach speeds around 1.2-1.4 MB/s down with the 3G connection, so it's real.

My ISP (in Ontario) gives me 513 to 528 KB/s. That's what FireFox shows in the Downloads window anyway when getting large files. I pay for something advertised as "up to 6 Mb/s". There are plans with 12 or 16 Mb/s but they cost $6 or $12 more every month. At my rate, I'd need 231 hours of continuous download for 419GB. No way I could do that in a week :(

"Pretty unbelievable when you consider the plans we in the U.S. or Europe are offered."
well you have to cut Europe from that sentence. I live in another European country and I've unlimited 3G since 2007. 4G since 2010.
I download regularly and even at every 15 days I backup my entire 1TB HDD into a cloud service.
