Have a jvc dvd player hooked to a toshiba tv. Only get music and no dialog?

I have a jvc dvd player hooked to a toshiba tv. Only hear music on movies no dialog

Go into the DVD player audio menu and set the audio to 2 channel rather than surround sound. Which setting will do this may not be clear so try the different options.
