i think i must have set it up wrong but i have am surppose to have 5.1 surround how ever even when i play audio files that i know for a fact are 5.1 or 7.1 i dont know whether there are specific drivers or software i need to install to get it to work but i didnt get any dvd's or anything with the system. i have a digital audio cable from the main box to the digital audio slot on the back of my pc and on my sound playback options it shows the following.realtek digital output, realtek digital output(optical) the second one is the only one that seems to work after i press the ipod button on my controller and the box screen says D- IN which ive always guessed means digital input. the sub woofer is under my desk the two tower speakers behind my monitors and the center speaker inbetween them, my 2 small speakers are above my window on the other side of the room, when im very close to them i can hear them playing but its like a whisper. if anyone could help i would really appreciate it as im good when it comes to computers but not all that great when it comes to audio.

anymore info or pictures u need ill be happy to give them is a link to a image of my speakers

Solution
Try setting the HTS to auto surround mode. If your PC is putting out 5.1 then there should be an indication on the front panel.
Did you do the set up on the HTS? You either have a mic and auto setup or your need to set the distance and levels of the speakers to your listening position. If your don't do this the system will not reproduce surround effects correctly or have proper bass. Here is the manual if you don't have it.
