Having to start the computer twice on Lenovo Thinkpad 11E

When I press the power button on my new ThinkPad, the computer starts and I know that the system is running because updates start whirring and beeping as they should. However the screen is black as is there was a screensaver on, only moving the trackpad or using the keyboard doesn't change anything.

The computer always works the second time, but how might I fix this so it's not a perennial headache?

When I watch videos, the color scheme starts to change where white backgrounds (such as the folders in Explorer) turn black and I can't see filenames without selecting them. I typically have to restart the computer. This poses many issues during the workday. Any suggestions?
