Solved! HD TV with vertical line down screen

I have a 40 " Sony HD TV. It suddenly has a straight vertical line running from top to bottom. The line is quite narrow but impossible to miss.

Is there a way this can be repaired or does this mean the TV is crashing.

Cable TV company is overloading the TV with too much signal? Install attenuator between TV and cable system.
