HDD loads incredibly slower than SDD

Hi, I'm posting a problem for my girlfriend's laptop.

Brand: MSI
Model: GL62M 7REX
OS: Windows 10
SSD: 128GB
HDD: 1TB

We're both gamers. We've ignored this situation since we've got the laptop, it's relatively new (December-January) because we figured we'd just use the SSD for strictly gaming and the HDD for excess such as music, favorites, pictures, storage, etc.

It's becoming a problem that we're wanting to try different games but their size is too large. Her games run fine, we play extremely old games so graphics are not the issue. However, when we do anything (and I mean anything: from transferring simple files to loading screens on games) it takes EXTREMELY long (about twice as long as loading anything onto the SDD).

I've read through some topics on tomshardware about bloatware and situations of high disk usage but those do not seem to be the case.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas to solving this issue or has encountered this type of issue and used any of their following solutions.

My last resort of fixing her laptop is to pay a PC Tech in a Computer store to load the laptop, and possibly take apart the laptop to see if there's any faulty parts internally.

Much slower.

"Twice as long" is not an unreasonable figure.

1. Bloatware, if it is in there, will be an issue.
2. How full is the SSD? 128GB is rather slim.
3. What OS is this?

That sound to me like the normal difference between SSD speed and HDD speed. If that were not the case why bother with an SSD. You might measure your SDD speed and see if it is abnormally slow....defragging your HDD might also help. But I suspect it is working just as would be expected.

You could always replace your HDD with a second SSD.

We tried loading the new game Warhammer: Verminitide 2 onto her HDD - which took about 2-3 hours (28 GB) and loading the actual game did not work at all. We waited 10 minutes after starting the game from the launcher and it did not load.

My PC loads the actual game in about 2 minutes, but over 10 minutes seems a bit too much..

1. Should be no bloatware.
2. It's fairly filled considering our game uses DLCs and add-ons, roughly 10% space left.
3. OS stated above as Windows 10.

We chose the one that was the most appealing to her and it was this one. The SSD and HDD were already in the laptop. Defragging is set to happen weekly on her laptop so defragging wasn't the issue unfortunately.

Replacing the HDD with an SSD may be a viable option, but would like to see if there's anything we can do without spending any more money.

Appreciate it - I do try to tell her to keep her SSD to that fair amount but she tends to forget to delete the add-ons we don't use anymore so they just ball up on her SSD.

Then it would seem that the HDD is not running any worse than normal.

It is expected than your SSD will perform a LOT faster than an HDD. That's what they do.
