HDMI splitter for one port TV

My TV is not a smart TV and only has one HDMI port which is used by the DirectV HDMI cable. I want to add a DVD player. Could I use a splitter for this? I'd have to put the DirectV connection into the splitter.

yes I did this once with a cable box and a xbox360 and a dvd player. you want a hdmi switch not a splitter.

you may want hdcp support though like this one has for a bit more. its only 2:1 though
