I have a 1 X 4 hdmi splitter. I intend to distribute the laptop's display to 4 tv sets with hdmi inputs.But when I connect the splitter to the laptop, the tv displays "no signal". But when I connect the splitter's input to a vga to hdmi converter output which I connected to the vga output of the laptop as the source, it worked. What could be the problem?

Your PC is not handshaking through the splitter and cables.
The problem could be the order that you boot the PC and select the inputs on the switch and TV.
The problem could be the HDMI cables or the switcher.
When you use the VGA converter you bypass the HDMI "handshake".
