HDMI will only connect to TV when plugged into the monitor.

The laptop screen doesn't work so I used to use it plugged into a monitor. But now I just want to use it plugged into TV via HDMI cable. But when I disconnect the monitor from the computer the tv can't find the signal. Any ideas for what I can do as I don't want the laptop connected to the monitor just the TV

A lot of laptops need to be told which output port to use. Check the manual or if you have lost the manual you can usually find it on the manufacturers web site.

Check out the Fn key and top row of buttons on the keyboard for a television/monitor symbol it can usually be switched this way.

I have just discovered that my new television also needs to have the correct input port selected from its menu system in order to display the PC output.
