Headphones only working though one ear on laptop

My laptop, a dell, will only play stero noise. Even if I plug in other headphones it still only plays from the right ear. I checked in >playback devices >playback and i only see "speakers" even with headphones plugged in. The audio levels are the same in each ear. When I hit >playback devices >speakers >configure and the only option to change to is stero. The headphones work fine on any other device.


How can I fix this?
