I am looking for a headset/headphone to pair with Creative Sound Blaster ZxR sound card just for gaming, as I have a pair of studio monitor for music. I am thinking of getting the Astro A40 TR, any recommendations?

is there a reason why you do not use your studio monitors for gaming? what about them do you not like for gaming?

to be honest, any good headphone is better than the astros. only when limiting yourself to "gaming headsets" are the astros decent though real headphone based designs like the mmx300, game one, adg1, etc. if you wanted something that has advantage for gaming, then sets like the ad500x, etc are good for bass light audio.

It's kinda too loud for gaming as I normally plays fps game like BF1, CS:GO. Therefore, I only use them for movies or music. Currently I am using my Westone W20 (IEM) for gaming. I just need a headset for gaming, not music.

Because I am always playing game in the midnight, so I do not want to disturb my family.

ah, you may have wanted to say "they leak sound" and you do not want to disturb anyone nearby. the way you stated it before was confusing.

given what you said.. i would get a closed pair of headphones.

I mean those speakers are 5 inches big, therefore it will be too loud to play games using them during midnight.

by open or close, you mean open back and close back?

yes, open means open back and closed means closed back.

how physically loud headphones are capable of playing is of no consequence. you can always turn down volume levels. what matters more is how much sound leaks out of them when playing audio.

closed cans passively cancel noise from entering and leaving headphones. of course there will be some sound leak, but you will always get this.

for simple convenience, i suggested normal sized headphones.

how to enjoy "high volume levels" without people hearing much leak? you could go with iems (the deep in ear monitors) as given how they seal in your ear canal volume level output on them doesnt need to be very loud to feel very loud to you so combined with how they seal, really doesnt leak much. of course iems arent without cons (mostly being that they are deep in ear).

As I am saying that I am currently using speakers or IEM to play games, i dont mind a open back headphone as it might be better for fps gaming.

Do you think that HD650 for USD 361 is a good deal?

I actually rent from my local sennheiser and try at home, EDM dont sounds as good as it is on my pc with the SB zxr sound card compared to using chord mojo with my iphone listening to the same music. As for gaming, it sounds good though.
