Headset jack doesn't work?

I have an Acer Aspire V3 with a headset jack (combined headphones and microphone) and I recently purchased an Asus Strix Pro headset, problem is they use USB for power, and have a 2 separate mic and audio cables. So I purchased a connector so the 2 audio cables would plug into it then go into the plug, problem is, the mic doesn't appear to work. The audio is fine it's just the mic that doesn't work. I have looked on other threads and I can't seem ti find any fix. Help please!

The male end is 4 pole so it should work right? The pin layout matches
