Question How to properly connect a headset to a DAP

I recently purchased a DAP (IBasso DX160) and I'm using a Sony headset (intended for cell phones with mic) I noticed that I don't have to push the 3.5mm jack all the way through the PO/LO/SPDIF port to get proper signal, however, if I push the 3.5mm jack all the way through I feel I'm loosing signal. What is the proper way to connect a headset to a DAP 3.5 mm port? Do I need special headphones / headset for this purpose?

At the end I found I needed to get an IEM TRS, no mic.
