Solved! Headset picking up audio from headphone earpiece

I recently built a PC and wanted to use a headset with a 3.5 mm jack, however when I plug in any headset the microphone on the headset doesn't pick up any audio. The weird part is that the part that goes over my ear does. Meaning I would have to speak into the earpiece in order for any audio to be picked up. I have used both a generic Xbox One headset as well as Turtle Beach PX24 and I have a ASRock B450 PRO4 motherboard. Any help would be much appreciated!

Think that those are not compatible with pc. A difference in the 3.5 connectors. With the X-Box One all audio goes over the one port/connector,with pc it's devided over two. Might be that this could help since all audio goes over one connector,

In agreement with @Vic 40

Are you using any adapters or extentsion cables?

Here is a link regarding TS, TRS, and TRRS connectivity:

https://www.cablechick.com.au/blog/understanding-trrs-and-audio-jacks/

Your headset may be mis-wired, defective (wired correctly but shorting somewhere) or just some buggy incompatible wiring scheme.

However, if all headsets exhibit the same behavior then the audio plug being used is suspect.

Try the headset(s) in another computer with known working audio and mic ports.
