Hi,

I'm looking to buy a laptop that is capable of running games like: Mount and Blade War Band, The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Fallout New Vegas, Rise of Nations, etc. I am looking at this Lenovo Flex 2 (15 inch) for $600. I was just wondering if this is a good choice for my needs or if someone has any suggestions.
Thanks

No link. I pulled up some Flex 2s and at 600 I am seeing AMD A8s with no dedicated graphics. You would have a hard time running some of those titles without a dedicated card of some type. Even at low settings. I personally don't make many recommendations for gaming in the 600 space (outside of used). Simply put under 800 new you will rarely find a gaming machine worth of any decent titles. Laptops and gaming = expensive. You can however build a good gaming desktop for that price :)

Hi,
Here is the link for reference http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/flex-series/flex-2-15/?sb=:000001C9:00011E90:&cid=us:display:xx7sw0&dfaid=1 . I already have a higher end gaming desktop. I am looking for a laptop to play some older games while i'm hanging out in the living room. I just didn't want to over spend on a laptop for my needs. So is this laptop more in line http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lenovo-Black-15.6-IdeaPad-Y50-Laptop-PC-with-Intel-Core-i5-4200H-Processor-8GB-Memory-1TB-Hard-Drive-and-Windows-8.1/37814319 ?
Thanks

In the US the $600 Lenovo Flex 2 has a Core i5-4210u CPU with the Intel HD 4400 integrated graphics core. It should be decent enough to play those slightly older games. The Intel HD 4400 can handle Skyrim on low settings.

Do a search on Youtube for "Intel HD 4400 games" so see some recorded gameplay using the Intel HD 4400 to determine if the performance is good enough for you.

Thanks for the link. The i5 w/4400 is a pretty good machine for 600. I would definitely take this over the Acer above only because I hate Acer and Lenovo is a very good brand. For light gaming and possibly some lowered setting then ya I think your on the right track.

Hi,
Thanks to the both of you for the input. One last question is this base model Y40 for $680 a better choice for the money?http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y40/#tab-customize ?

The Y40 does have a 1080p screen (great for a 14") and the price is nice. The AMD card should be good for pushing standard games. The Y40 is pretty well received in the market with good price balancing. The Y50 is the outlier in the series with a crap lcd.

The AMD graphics card will definitely beat the intel processor for gaming. By a lot. Its performance is on par with the GTX 760m. You can game in most games at native res with med.-high settings.

Some game benchmarks are here:
