Hello,

I have a 4 To Hard drive with all my pictures failing and I would like help to recover it. It is a SATA Hard drive used with a "Icy Box".
What is happening is that after deleting a large portion of data (50 Go) the hard drive failed. Now I cannot access it anymore, the dot on the icy box is sometimes indicating errors sometimes not, when I plug the HD on my PC it is hardly detected, meaning that sometimes it is just not found at all, other times it is found but cannot be accessed and once in a while I can access it.
Also, whenever I can access it or it is detected the PC gets very...very slow.

I have tried in on 2 different PC and same is happening. Funny thing, something similar actually happened once month ago but after 2 days with the same problem it started to work well again. This time I have tried it many times and nothing changes.

I do not have another Hard drive or external box to test if the problem comes from the HD or the box.

Can you help me please?

Solution
You can try to use ddrescue to backup the disk to another one and then scan it to try to get the info from it https://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/ Next time keep backups of the files, especially if the drive already had issues.

With backups you don't need to pay a few $100 to a disk recovery place, $50 on a second drive or $500 for a disk repair.
