Help! Laptop dell display wont turn on!

So I have a Dell laptop. I had like three or four files opened in google chrome . I letf it on stand by, and when I returned, ut was turning on, the ventilation was working and so did the leds but the display stayed black. I may consider it an overheating since I kept it in my bed.
What should I do?

If it was overheating it would (or should) automatically shut down.

The screen backlight may have expired and in need of replacing (just the backlight, not the entire screen).
Shine a torch close to the screen and if you can just see a faint image, that's what it is - - a dead backlight.

I tried the torch method and it showed nothing. Indeed I can insert cds in my laptop but it wont provoke any reaction on my display
