my lbrother is studying computer enginnering and i want to buy him a new one on his birthday

This is a pretty good build except for the XP and lack of dedicated graphics. Will that matter to him? We cant tell you if its a good deal or not without the price...

However, I feel someone needs to point out-- if your brother is studying computer engineering dont you think he would rather pick out a computer himself? I know giving it to him on his birthday would be nice... but personally I would not want someone with less technical knowledge than myself buying me a computer.

Maybe you should just give him a gift card or promise to buy him one that he picks out?

Yes, that would be the best way to go. Go out shopping with him for a day and see what he wants, as long as it is within your price range.

i asked him but he told me that he had no experience in this ,,
but he want a laptop with the best performance , large memory to handle cad , database software, matlab ,circit design etc....
good for graphics >>he dont exactly know what he needs

If you're concerned about graphics I'd stay away from anything that says intel GMA, however without an approximate budget its hard to give specific suggestions.

Woa. if thats $2000 US you can do a lot better.

Some ideas for comparison:

You can get a Dell studio 17 with a core i7 and ati mobility 4650 for around $1400,
or a fully loaded Lenovo ideapad with Core2 Duo processor T9900. Lenovo has some powerful small laptops too if he needs it to be highly portable.
