Good day.
I know this question is stupid, but i have to ask.
I just receive a second-hand-laptop TOSHIBA Satellite M30X from a friend (for free :) ). This is the first time I have ever work with a mobile PC.
This Laptop is a little slower than I expected (I think, it is caused by the OS) and I want to new-install the OS ''XP'' (fresh with newformating).
What is a product recovery CD? I can't find the XP-source but all that i found is a recovery cd.
Thank you thank you thank you.....

The recovery CD is usually an image of the hdd at the time the compute is shipped. Usually one option is to format the drive before the install. This installs everything, Windows, drivers, any software as well as crapware. You should get the current drivers for the machine before you use the recovery CD and save them to a CD, makes it easier to update the drivers. Also run Adaware and SpyBot Search and Destroy, both free, after the install to try to get rid of most of the crapware that likely came with the computer. In fact, you could run these programs before you do anything else as well as running CCleaner and defraging the machine. If the laptop hasn't been cleaned and defragged, that might speed it up without have to do an install, although an install is probably a good idea given you don't know what all is or has been on the machine. How much memory do you have? If less than 1GB, would be a good idea to get it up to 1GB.

hmmmm......
Thank you very much for the reply.
Soooo...that is a recovery CD. I assume the winXP is also in there.
I just go run the recoveryCD and format the HDD, it is easier. There is no valuable data anyway.
My current memory is 512MB. I'planning to upgrade it sometime this year.
Thankyou

XP will be a part of the image, so given the choice, format the drive. If there is anyway you can afford it, upgrade the RAM now. It will make a big difference and likely prevent problems. 512MB is the minimum requirement to run XP but in reality 1GB is necessary to ensure everything works smoothly. You can try the 512 but if you notice any problems, the first thing to do up upgrade the memory. I would also go to the Toshiba web site and check the instructions for installing the image CD. A friend of mine has a Dell desktop and to boot off the install CD he had to hit an F key, either 10, 11, or 12, forget. For what ever reason just setting the BIOS to boot the CD didn't work. It's not difficult to do if you follow the instructions and know what to expect. This is the problem with proprietary stuff, it's never as straight forward as it should be. Again, don't forget to download the driver and any BIOS updates and save them to a CD. Can save a lot of time and trouble especially connecting to the Internet.
