Hi, I need some help. I have a newer TV that has a dvd player built into the tv but it's not working so I bought a dvd player

I have a newer flat screen TV with built in dvd player but the dvd player doesn't work so I bought a portable dvd player to connect to the tv but can't get the portable dvd player to work, can you help??

Without knowing the makes and models of the TV and DVD we can't know what connections they have.
If the portable DVD has HDMI out then use that.
If it has composite video and audio out use that.
If it doesn't have any video outputs get another DVD player that does.
