home theater system, satellite receiver and TV connection

I would like to connect these system in a way that i will still be able to watch my tv even if my home theater is off. Right now i have to have my home theater system on so i could watch. Current connection: My home theater system is connected (HDMI out) to my TV (HDMI in). My direct tv receiver (via only 1 HDMI) is connected to the home theater system (HDMI in). Every now and then, i would like to watch TV without the surround system.. Please help

Does your TV have an optical or coax digital output? If so then run the HDMI directly to the TV and run the digital audio out to the receiver.
