[citation][nom]jcknouse[/nom]Can someone please explain:A) How an x-ray image is a "violation of rights", but getting patted down isn't? Can the x-ray machine accidentally run its hand over your privates?B) Why is this an invasion of privacy? You are IN PUBLIC. There is no privacy. You are subject to parusal and observation and critical thought by everyone who looks at you. Don't fool yourself. Someone is estimating and judging you every second in public places.C) Why are we Americans so hung up on letting security do their jobs?I've wished for years now that we'd get security like they have in Israeli airports. Armed military with dogs, signs all over stating that if you're in the airport confines, you must submit to search at any time, etc.I'd rather strip to my underwear for a search than get blown up.Think about that for a minute. Rather be dead? Or get a harmless burst of x-rays that will ensure you get to your destination and see your family and/or friends?Just ponder that, America.[/citation]
You like Israeli security so much, go live in Israel. Great country I hear: they still have mandatory military service (read: draft), officially sanctioned religious discrimination, and state-run media. Or didn't you know that?
I find it funny that this guy tried this and all of a sudden we're about to spend billions on these new full-body scanners which just so happened to have been created recently. If anyone else doesn't find the timing fishy (especially since these things would NOT have prevented this, since he went through security in NIGERIA) then they're living in a dream world.
THose who would give up liberty for security deserve neither (yes I'm paraphrasing). Those who would give up liberty for a false sense of security deserve a fate worse than death, especially since they're helping to take away OUR liberties too.
