For some time now, a company called Hon Hai Presicion has repeatedly signed on and off my WiFi network. Are they a threat or are they merely testing and/or monitoring their components. Please advise.

What is your router brand and model?

What you are likely seeing is the router checking for firmware updates. Googling this topic will reveal that this is a fairly common thing and shows no indication of malicious intent.

Check you router settings, you may be able to disable the firmware update function (or its frequency) to change the observed behavior.

What is your router brand and model? I have an Art is NVG589 that AT&T gave me for my U-Verse internet service back in January of 2015.

I still think you are seeing firmware update checks. Hon Hai is owned by Foxxcon and they are likely an OEM for the Arris (or least parts of it).
