Hi,

Our old laptop's monitor and keyboard died. We have some items on there we need.

We have a laptop, is it possible to hook these two up and get the items we need off the old laptop?

You might do it with a standalone monitor, keyboard, and mouse. A second laptop does no good unless you have already setup the first laptop for remote access. The HDMI port on the second laptop is output only. There is no easy way to get the keyboard and mouse to the other laptop via USB. Just borrow a monitor, keyboard and mouse from a friend. Connect the laptop to a network or usb drive and copy the data off.
If that fails, you will have to physically pull the disk from the dead laptop and use a USB adapter to read data off it.
