hooking up 2 computer speakers to pair with the monitor speakers

i have a set of Logitech speakers and a monitor with speakers build in. for some reason i can only get one or the other to work but not both why is this. only the one that is pluged into line out on the back of the motherboard will work

i tried plunging the 2 Logitech into the side speakers port and the monitor into line out but only the monitor would work even if i went in to surround and only enabled front and side.

The easiest way is to get a Y adapter so the Logitech speakers and the monitor can be plugged into the line out.

how does your monitor get its audio?

via a hdmi (or dvi cable) or from a 3.5mm connection?

it sounds like at first you were getting an issue with windows only allowing one audio device to be enabled at one point in time (why headphones and speakers cant be used at once)

afterwards it sounds like you're trying to set up some sort of surround sound with the speakers... only the front 2 (green port) will play most of the time on windows (most web video, music, all windows sounds ,etc). you will only get sound out the sides on movies & games. also... does your monitor even support sound input from 3.5mm (or is the port on your monitor an output for headphones?)

why are you trying to use your monitor speakers? at first it looked like you wanted it to work in 2.0 (two for left, two for right) but then in a sort of mock surround sound set. more speakers does not equal better.

respond with your intentions for the system (what you expect) as well as if the monitor accepts sound input via 3.5mm or if its just an output.

if your monitor cant accept 3.5mm input then its not an easy solution and you would be better off just getting a set of speakers. if it does.. then you can probably use the green fronts jack on your pc for them and the black rears for your speakers. this would give something similar to quadraphonic sound. an alternative would be to use green for your speakers for fronts then use orange for the monitor (you would need to figure out which wire is for the center signal and which is the sub.. then connect the center one to both the other wires) which would allow both monitor speakers to act as one center channel which gives you a 3.0 (3.0 is better for any vocals content than 4.0).

speakers are a better option though. personally i'd ignore your monitor speakers as they are normally bad quality.
