How do i connect a soundbar to a Samsung LED TV using optical cable

I have tried to connect my soundbar to my Samsung Smart tv without success. I have connected my optical cable from the tv to the soundbar. I have went into settings on tv & selected external speaker from the sound menu. No joy.

Sounds like that should be the right steps, everything has power and is set to the right input source on the sound bar? Is there an optical out selection that needs to be set on the TV maybe? Look at the manuals, they often will have trouble shooting steps or on the makers support web site.
