How do I fix my laptop's screen?

Okay here's the problem. The left hand screen hinge is broken and late last night my dog knocked it to the ground off of my bed side table (about a foot drop) and the cord that connects the screen to the laptop was disconnected. I have an hp notebook with a 17 inch screen and I can't afford to replace it. Can it be fixed, if so, how?
