i have a good bit of TV shows downloaded in .avi format. How do i get itunes to recognize this format and put into itunes?

Do you really have to put them into iTunes? Can't you just play it with VLC player or something??
If you really want them in iTunes I suggest converting them with WinFF. It's free, fast (not really greatlooking) but simple.
