How do I get the DVD disc main menu on the TV

Sony CD/DVD player hooked to RCA TV. I turn TV on, with RCA remote, can't get DVD to play on TV

Make sure that input source on the TV is selected to A/V.

U bought pieces that are not so smart. What ^he says, u must tell TV, PLAY THIS INPUT, INPUT as in where you hooked up the DVD.
