How do I get the picture taking button to depress to take a picture

I have an Olympus Szumski-16 camera and suddenly I can not get the picture taking button to depress to take pictures

See if you can gently shake it to dislodge the sand (or whatever is gummed it up). Otherwise take it in for service. But it is an older entry level camera. Might want to compare the repair cost vs getting another used one from Amazon, craigslist, etc.
