How do I hook my DVD player to m6 Magnavox TV and what program do I put it on the view

DVD won't work ... have yellow cable in green hole TV on HDMI1 What am I doing wrong

Did you go into the TV set up menu and select composite video? That sets the TV to accept the single yellow cable for video. You do need two more cables for sound (red and white usually). The TV manual should detail this.
HDMI is not the correct input. You need to select the AV input. It may not be called that so start a DVD playing and select each input until you see the DVD on screen.
